Innovating with Nature

On 1 March, OpenNESS together with OPERAs project and the European Commission DG Research & Innovation, organises a policy day entitled “Innovating with Nature – Natural capital and ecosystem services for sustainable EU policies“. OpenNESS aims to translate the concept of Natural Capital (NC) and Ecosystem Services (ES) into operational frameworks that provide tested, practical and tailored solutions for integrating ES into land, water and urban urban management and decision-making. It examines how the concepts link to, and support, wider EU economic, social and environmental policy initiatives and scrutinizes the potential and limitations of the concepts of ES and NC. OPERAs is a European research that is helping to put cutting edge ecosystem science into practice. Composed of scientists, researchers and practitioners from 27 different organisations the project seeks to help stakeholders to apply the ecosystem services and natural capital concept into practice.

This policy day is organised by the European Commission DG Research & Innovation with the OpenNESS and OPERAs projects, under the auspices of EU Presidency and with contribution from the European Parliament Intergroup on “Climate Change, Biodiversity, and Sustainable Development“.
