Rebuilding Fisheries for People and the Environment

June 5, 2017 @ 18:15 - 19:30

Rebuilding Fisheries is not only rebuilding fish stocks, but also rebuilding of economic, social and environmental values that productive and sustainable fisheries provide. Rebuilding of fishery stocks, species assemblages and habitats is a legal imperative, an ecological commitment and a socio-economic necessity. Rebuilding plans are expected in the SDG 14 and CBDs Aichi Target 6, but most of all it is needed for a growing world population who rely on fisheries for food and nutrition, as well as related livelihoods. While rebuilding is progressing in many advanced countries, with mixed outcomes, it is still to be tackled in many developing ones were challenges and need are most significant.

Organized by FAO In partnership with Pacific Islands Forum (PIF), Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA) and the IUCN-Fisheries Expert Group (FEG)
