CITES Enforcement on Wildlife Crime
On Wednesday 11 November MEP Benedek Jávor and MEP Pavel Poc hosted the event “CITES Enforcement on Wildlife Crime”, which took place in the European Parliament highlighting the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) and the issues surrounding the enforcement of wildlife crime.
The European Union became a Party to CITES on 8 July 2015 . In August the European Commission published a roadmap relating to the development of an EU Action Plan against wildlife trafficking, which presents options on further actions by the EU in that field and seeks feedback from stakeholders.
The event was organised by MEPS for Wildlife, The Greens/EFA, The Socialist & Democrats, and Born Free, and with the support of the European Parliament Intergroup on “Climate Change, Biodiversity and Sustainable Development“.
