GLYPHOSATE – YES or NO? Re-Approval of the World’s Most Popular Chemical
March 2, 2016 @ 15:00 - 19:00
RNDr. Pavel Poc, MEP will on Wednesday 2 March host an event in the European Parliament dedicated to glyphosate. In 2015 the European Food Safety Authority and the EU Member States finalised the re-assessment of glyphosate, the active substance in the most widely used herbicide. The report concludes that glyphosate is unlikely to pose a carcinogenic hazard to humans. In parallel, glyphosate was recently classified as “probable human carcinogen” by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) of the World Health Organization. Other organisations and scientists have their doubts about this chemical as well. Nevertheless, by June 2016 the Commission has to decide whether or not to keep glyphosate on the EU list of the approved active substances.
The event will be webstreamed following this link where you can also find out more about the meeting.
Pavel Poc is Vice-Chair of the EP Committee on “Environment, Public Health and Food Safety” and Chair of the EP Intergroup on “Climate Change, Biodiversity, and Sustainable Development”.
