As a key component of the European Green Deal, Member States have been asked to present their revised National Energy and Climate Plans (NECPs), setting out ambitious national contributions to EU-wide targets. While NECPs are 10-year integrated energy and climate action plans for the period from 2021 to 2030, they have to ensure that the EU 2030’s targets towards energy efficiency, renewable energies, greenhouse gas, emission reductions, electricity interconnections and research and innovation are met. This will feed into the process of increasing climate ambition for 2030, for which MEPs have asked to reduce emissions’ target to 60%.
While on 17 September 2020, the European Commission published a detailed EU-wide assessment of the final NECPs, moreover individual assessments of each of the national plans as a follow-up and as part of the 2020 energy union report, the timely nature of this online event is of key importance, given also the need to boost the green transition and ensure a sustainable recovery. As a result, this webinar aspires to address the above developments by bringing together policy-makers from the EU and Member States, private sector and NGOs, to jointly discuss how the EU can advance climate neutrality and energy efficiency, while building on a sustainable, fair and inclusive society.
