  • What is the main goal you would like to achieve as Chair of the Bioeconomy Working Group?
“Being appointed as Chair of the Bioeconomy Working Group is an honour and a privilege for me. I sincerely believe that bioeconomy, which has significant results in terms of sustainable use of natural resources, strengthening of short supply chains and providing work for Europeans who are living in rural areas, should be put back in the core of the EU’s political agenda. Especially after the shift of political priorities after the Covid-19 outbreak, which has shown that Europe must become significantly more self-reliant in all fields and aspects of economy and agriculture. What better way to do that than with reinforced support to bioeconomy!”

  • If you had to choose one specific issue that you think needs to be primarily tackled during this parliamentary term, what would it be? And why?
“Strengthening EU’s self-reliance in industry and agriculture, both of the fields that come together through bioeconomy. EU has all the potential to become the world’s leading industrial force with short-supply chains. In order to achieve this objective it has to make use of all its potential in innovation, research and human resources, as well as use and re-use of natural resources in a sustainable and most efficient manner.”
